Why Leave a Gift in Your Will?

By leaving King’s College Hospital Charity a gift in your Will, you will become part of a community of generous donors supporting King’s in an extraordinary way.

Leaving a gift in your Will is a personal decision, and some of our legacy community wish to honour particular King’s hospitals or specific medical areas that are important to them.

We are happy to honour those requests, but encourage supporters to leave any gifts to be used where the need is greatest to ensure the best possible impact for patients and families at that time. More information can be found in our legacy brochure.

Innovative medical research

Your support could help to fund inclusive research to help King’s patients receive the best care, focusing on the most pressing needs in our local communities and specialised care areas.

Enhanced patient experience initiatives

From music therapy to hospital volunteer visiting, a gift in your Will could help us improve hospital experiences for King’s patients, from diagnosis to discharge.

Pioneering new treatments

Gifts in Wills help us to invest in technology-driven projects that develop new ways of delivering effective treatment and lead to better results and recovery outcomes for patients.

State of the art hospital facilities

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are able to transform hospital facilities into more accessible, comfortable, and less clinical spaces to help decrease isolation and enhance patient wellbeing.

Comprehensive wellbeing support for NHS staff

From refurbishing staff rooms to providing mental health support, donations to the charity help us to support staff by providing the best possible working environment.

Your legacy journey

Much like your connection to King’s hospitals, your journey towards leaving us a gift in your Will is uniquely personal to you. You might want to leave a gift in honour of the care a loved one received at King’s, to say thank you for your own treatment, or simply as an incredible way to support your local hospital.

Each of our donors has their own reasons for remembering King’s College Hospital Charity in their Will, and behind every legacy is a story.

King's got my husband through treatment for cancer and Hep C, enabling him to have a liver transplant. We don't have family - when we die, everything will go to the liver transplant team so others can benefit from their research.

Including a gift in your Will to King’s College Hospital Charity is easier than you might think – just follow these steps:

Step One – Make a note of our charity details

You will need our full name and details to ensure the gift reaches us safely. These are:

Name: King’s College Hospital Charity

Charity registered in England and Wales, registration no: 1165593

Registered Office: King’s College Hospital Charity, 245A Coldharbour Lane, London, SW9 8RR

Step Two – Decide what type of gift you want to include

There are two main ways to include a gift:

A residuary gift is a percentage or share of your estate once all other payments and gifts have been made.

A pecuniary gift is a fixed amount of money.

Step Three – Consider Inheritance Tax

Anything you include to charity is free of Inheritance Tax. By including 10% or more of your estate to charity you can reduce the amount of Inheritance Tax you pay and support a cause close to your heart.

Step Four – Create or adjust your Will

Once you've got this far, it's time to speak with a solicitor to have your Will drawn up or adjusted. If you don't have a solicitor, you can find one in your area by contacting the Law Society.

Alternatively, you can use our Free Will-writing service and create a simple Will online for free, quickly and easily.
