The Dobson family will be cycling a staggering 1,189 miles in June, all in aid of King's College Hospital Charity. They will be cycling in memory of their daughter, Evelyn, who tragically and unexpectedly passed away at just 11 days old. The funds they raise will go towards improving hospital accommodation for parents of seriously ill children at King’s College Hospital.
It is the latest in several fundraising events put on by Jonathan and Alexandra Dobson and their family and friends to raise money for King’s, where Evelyn was cared for by an incredible team of consultants, doctors and nurses.
On Thursday 8 June, Jonathan and a group of friends set off to cycle the length of Great Britain. They started from Land’s End in Cornwall and will finish in John O’Groats in Scotland on 17 June. With temperatures set to soar, the challenge will push them to their physical and mental limits. Jonathan said:
Funds raised by the Dobsons will go towards the much-needed refurbishment of the emergency accommodation used by parents of critically ill children at King's.
It’s a cause close to the Dobsons’ hearts, having spent three nights in the parent accommodation at King's while their daughter Evelyn was treated.
Evelyn’s mother Alexandra said:
The cycling challenge is the final push to raise £40,000, which would enable a complete refurbishment of three parent accommodation rooms at King’s. So far, their fundraising has included: 'Evelyn's Charity Ball', the London Marathon and the London Landmarks Half Marathon. So far, they have raised £31,000 and hope that their efforts over the next fortnight will make a huge difference for other families across London and beyond who find themselves walking the same corridors that they did.
