Love Your Liver Month: Suzy's story

King’s specialises in liver care. The King’s Liver Transplant Unit runs the largest transplantation programme in Europe, carrying out more than 200 procedures a year.

We are renowned for our world-leading specialists, and we assess and treat both adults and children from all over the country and abroad.

The Liver Transplant Unit saves the lives of people like Suzy.

Suzy unexpectedly became extremely unwell with liver damage in 2023. After being transferred to King’s, Suzy received a donor liver after her own became unviable.

Thanks to the brilliant treatment and care at King’s, Suzy’s life was saved. With the support of her family, including her two teenage children, she has now made a full recovery.

Last year, Suzy decided she wanted to give back to the place that saved her life, and she rode 86 miles raising over £1,000 for King’s College Hospital Charity.

“The care I received at King’s was amazing, they completely saved my life.”

“I don’t think there’s ever a time where I don’t feel incredibly grateful. I feel very lucky.”
