The Great Hospital Hike - Sarah's Story

Everyone has their own special story for walking the Great Hospital Hike.  Sarah took part to show her appreciation of her mum's brave fight and the wonderful team of staff at King's for saving her life.

Sarah's mum has been a patient at King's since 11th March, after being diagnosed with a brain abscess.

She unfortunately suffered some complications after the first operation, resulting in the need for a second operation, where she was put on a ventilator for what felt like an absolute eternity. In late May, she had her third and final surgery.

"Walking helps me to clear my mind, so it felt right to do this to not only support King's, but to support my own mental health recovery." - Sarah

During her time at King's, Sarah's mum has been to A&E, an ICU, a High Dependency Unit and she now is in a main neuro ward recovering with the help of speech, occupational and physical therapists, alongside a lovely team of nurses and healthcare assistants. She will at some point be transferred to another hospital so that she can receive focused therapy.

"We have a long road ahead, but Mum has fought this far and has promised that she will continue to do so." - Sarah
