The Great Hospital Hike 2024 - Jon's Story

Jon had a traumatic brain injury in 2023 and walked this year's Great Hospital Hike after King's saved his life.

Jon was admitted to King's College Hospital in June 2023 after fracturing his skull in an accident.

He was only given a 33% chance of survival, but thanks to the surgeons at King's in the Critical Care Unit and Jon's stubbornness, made an amazing quick recovery and went back to full time work in February 2024.

Jon had a great experience at this year's Great Hospital Hike and loved having the support from his family who also took part, including his wife Githa, sister Lynn and brother-in-law Alan.

I think the level of support King's gets is good and it comes across in the level of professionalism and ability to act appropriately in a severe instance such as what I went through and be able to make the correct choices.

The weather was great on the day. It was really nice to see both individuals who are supporting people who have been in King’s and also previous patients in King’s that were taking part in the Hike.
