The Great Hospital Hike 2024 - Roisin's Story

Roisin walked the 2024 Great Hospital Hike in memory of her Dad.

Roisin and her family took part in this year's Great Hospital Hike in memory of her Dad who sadly passed away in June 2024.

Paul spent the last four months of his life under the care of King's and the family wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you, give back and also ensure families in similar situations in the future can receive the same support.

The initiatives the charity supports and families that are able to benefit from them are crucial in critical situations and I cannot stress how important it is that this support continues to be provided.

Roisin cannot thank the staff enough for the care her Dad received during his stay at King's, especially the staff on the Sam Oram Ward who took care of not only her Dad, but the rest of the family too, particularly in the last few weeks of his life.

Paul initially spent a month in the Critical Care Unit, and the family are also grateful for the support they received from the psychosocial team.

Roisin looked forward to challenging herself both physically and mentally on the Hike. She took part with her family whose ages range from 16 to 60, and they had good laugh on the day, helping each other through the 18 mile route.

The Great Hospital Hike was really enjoyable, it was certainly a challenge and crossing the finish line was emotional.
