The Great Hospital Hike 2023 - Camilla's story

King's has been there for Camilla and her family for over 20 years - from the birth of her two children to her recent treatment for thyroid cancer, with countless x-rays, stitches and the odd emergency appendicitis operation in between.

With her friend by  her side, Camilla will be taking on the Great Hospital Hike this year, despite experiencing fatigue from all the cancer treatment she's had to endure.

A dear friend of mine immediately offered to accompany me on the hike when I told her that I wanted to do it. This will be an enormous help on the day, as it's quite a daunting prospect! Neither of us has ever walked 18 miles in a day, but we are determined to complete it.

Camilla said: "I am so grateful for the treatment and ongoing care that I have received at King’s College Hospital. You helped me when I was in my weakest and most vulnerable state. Not only did I receive swift surgery and life-saving medicine, but I was given encouragement and hope. I was treated with kindness and respect, so this is my small contribution to say thank you to the fantastic NHS staff there."
