British Transplant Games - Albie's story

Verity shares her son's story, his fundraising football match for King's and the British Transplant Games

In 2021, Albie suddenly became ill. His Mum Verity took him to the doctors and then he was admitted to hospital.

After being in their local hospital for a week, Albie was taken to King's in an ambulance and he was there for a week. It was revealed that Albie had acute liver failure and he needed to be listed for a transplant.

King's are specialists at what they do, I couldn't fault the care that we've had at King’s during the whole transplant process.

After Albie had his liver transplant at King's, Verity found out about the British Transplant Games. Albie participated as part of the King's transplant team which took place at the beginning of August.

On Saturday 13th July, the family arranged a charity football match as a fundraiser for King’s.

Verity's middle children did a fantastic job organising their teams, and overall, 26 teenage boys played football and raised money for King's, with parents, family, and friends there to support them.

£433 was raised on the day, and including JustGiving donations, the event ended with an amazing grand total of £1,253!

It was just really lovely for Albie and for me and my other children to just be with other people in the same situation as us.
