You can help keep family bonds strong

The vCreate app helps keep precious bonds between parents and premature babies in neo-natal units strong, bringing crucial comfort and reassurance during a difficult time. With your help, we can make more innovative care like this possible.

This summer we're highlighting the impact of an incredible app called vCreate, funded by King’s College Hospital Charity, which allows staff to send secure pictures and updates to worried parents when they are not able to be by their baby’s side.

So far, over 750 photos, videos, and messages have been sent over the app, each one providing that little bit of comfort to a parent when they need it most.

With a donation today, you’ll be making more projects like vCreate possible. You could give patients and families at King’s the very best care during one of the toughest moments of their lives.

The difference you’re making – Elizabeth’s story

Elizabeth’s daughter Ava spent two months on the neonatal unit at Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) in Orpington after she was born at just 31 weeks. Elizabeth was one of the very first mums to use the vCreate app at PRUH. This is her story.

The comfort that I got through the vCreate app, I can't put a price on it; it was invaluable to me. I think that anyone that could support King’s College Hospital Charity would be doing a wonderful thing.

Dr Shahid’s story – being on the other side of care at King’s

Dr Numan Shahid and his daughter Noorulain Fatima

Dr Numan Shahid and his wife Hajar both work as doctors at King’s College Hospital in London. But last year, they were on the receiving end of care at King’s when their daughter, Noorulain Fatima, was born at just 27 weeks. He and his wife Hajar were two of the first parents to use vCreate at King’s College Hospital.

Receiving videos of Noorulain Fatima on vCreate made a real difference to me as a working father.
Dr Numan Shahid

Noorulain Fatima spent four long months in the neonatal unit, and all too soon during that time, Dr Shahid had to return to work. Between his shifts at King's, he would run to the neonatal unit to be by her side. It felt heart-breaking to leave her at the end of the night.

Because of the vCreate app, Dr Shahid and Hajar felt reassured returning home when they desperately needed rest, knowing Noorulain Fatima was receiving the best possible care.

A labour of love – the clinical staff behind vCreate

Like so many other projects the Charity has funded, vCreate was born through the passion and vision of our staff, and their desire to provide the very best of care for patients and their families.

Anusha Arasu, Consultant in Neonatal Care for both King’s College Hospital and PRUH, is one of the staff members leading the project. We caught up with her to learn more about the impact of vCreate for parents, families, and staff.

The neonatal teams here at King’s are extremely grateful to the Charity for the funding that made vCreate possible. But we can't do projects like this without our whole team, or without the generosity of the Charity’s donors.
