Every year, families face the heartbreak and stress of having their baby born too early. At King’s College Hospital Charity, we believe in supporting holistic care approaches in addition to world-class medical treatment—especially for vulnerable little ones and their parents.
Bridging the gap with innovation
We recently funded the launch of a new video‑messaging app at King’s College Hospital and Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) that allows neonatal teams to send photos and updates straight to parents’ phones. By offering:
- Regular photo and video messages of their baby
- Soothing reassurance during long periods of separation
- Inclusive sharing with extended family to foster emotional connection
The app plays a pivotal role in reducing parents’ anxiety and strengthening the bond during this critical time.
What the app gives parents
Enhanced emotional support
Seeing their baby—even from a distance—helps parents feel more involved and less isolated during stressful days in neonatal units.
Family inclusion
Grandparents and other loved ones can share the experience, creating a wider circle of emotional support right from the earliest days.
Complement to family-centred care
This technology aligns with best practices in neonatal care: promoting parent engagement, reducing stress for baby, and supporting better long-term outcomes.
Thanks to support from King’s College Hospital Charity
This vital tool was made possible through grant funding and advocacy from the Charity. By backing forward-thinking approaches like this app, we help bring innovation directly to families when they need it most.
