Our Year Wrapped- 2024

This year has been a busy one at King’s College Hospital Charity! Having directly improved the treatment and care of over 5,000 patients and committed 1.6 million across projects ranging from state-of-the-art equipment to refurbishing rooms, we’re proud to celebrate all we’ve achieved this year!

Our highlights

Robotic- assisted surgery

In May 2023, we contributed £1 million towards a £1.9 million surgical robot.

We recently hit the milestone of performing 500 surgeries using the system, giving more patients faster recovery times, less time in hospital, and giving frail and multiply-ill patients access to surgical care.

Refurbishing three rooms for parents with sick children

This year, we refurbished three parent rooms on paediatric wards, giving parents with sick children a sanctuary to take a break from their children's bedsides.

The calming and cosy rooms on the King’s Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Rays of Sunshine ward, and the Princess Elizabeth and Lion wards provide a space for parents to eat and relax.

The room transformations were generously funded by the Betts, Dove and Rice families.

Facilitating the work of our brilliant volunteers

In 2024, we funded the work of 1,458 King's volunteers, amounting to 66,818 volunteer hours.

Our volunteers support across the hospital, showing patients where they need to go, assisting on wards, helping with mealtimes, hairdressing, helping out in the Emergency Department, and keeping patients company on the wards.

Our volunteers' work this year has amounted to £878,657 benefit in kind. Thank you for all your help!

The Wellbeing Hub

In 2022, we opened the Wellbeing Hub at King's.

The hub ensures that every member of staff has a comfortable space to unwind in, as well as immediate access to coordinated emotional and psychological support.

This year, the hub supported 4,700 staff members through the hub, and ran 1,600 interventions, including 1:1 support and team wellbeing sessions, as well as 60 art sessions.
