This summer in Oxford, Team King’s showed the world what determination, courage, and community spirit really look like. Competing in the British Transplant Games 2025, our incredible athletes — from young children to adults, alongside living donors and their families — came together to celebrate life, inspire others, and make unforgettable memories.
King’s College Hospital Charity is proud to support Team King’s at the Games, helping to make this unforgettable experience possible for our athletes and their families.
Across the weekend, Team King’s achieved outstanding results — winning 30 gold medals, 16 silver medals, 20 bronze medals, and around 87 social medals. A special highlight was Aarron Higgins being named Volleyball Player of the Tournament.
The children’s team was honoured with the Best Liver Team Award and the Best Overall Children’s Team Award, both jointly with Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
A weekend of inspiration
For our families, the Games are about far more than competition. They are a source of encouragement, community, and emotional healing. One parent said:
"I honestly think that the Transplant Games do as much to help transplant recovery as medicine! Not just for the recipient but the whole family. I can’t recommend them highly enough."
Another described the weekend as:
“An experience like no other. Being around families who really understand and can offer you real support is so refreshing… seeing your own superhero compete in the games with the biggest smile on their face and having the absolute best time is the most beautiful experience.”
Many spoke about the friendships and sense of belonging that grow each year:
“When life was tough my son needed to find individuals similar to him to give him belonging and this team did not fail to deliver. The team spirit, encouragement and sportsmanship they are taught by their team manager is far beyond their years… Even though the Games are only 4 days long, the friendships last a lifetime.”
Looking ahead to Sheffield 2026
For some families, the Games are now a fixed part of their lives:
“We have been going to the Games for 4 years now and they keep getting better. It’s not all about the Games and medals, it’s about team building, making memories and lifelong friendship.”
As we turn our attention to Sheffield in August 2026, the excitement is already building. The medals may be shining, but it’s the bonds, resilience, and shared joy that truly make Team King’s a winning team.
Thank you, Team King’s
