Working in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is demanding at the best of times, but working through a global pandemic has brought its own exceptional challenges.
As well as working incredibly long hours, staff from the PICU were redeployed to assist caring for COVID-19 patients on top of their normal duties.
Phoebe's sister, Daisy, is a Paediatric Intensive Care nurse on the PICU at King's. Daisy's commitment to her job and to her patients is what has inspired Phoebe to fundraise for King's College Hospital Charity by running an ultramarathon.
"My sister has dealt with the pandemic so well," Phoebe says.

Phoebe will be participating in the EnduranceLife Ultra Distance event in Sussex on 17 April. The event involves taking on a grueling 32.9 miles across 1583 metres of elevation, atop the beautiful Seven Sisters cliffs.
The ultramarathon will be the second running event Phoebe has ever entered, but she is determined to go the distance for frontline staff like Daisy who rose to the challenge during the global pandemic.
"They got through it as a team and I’m so proud of them all," says Phoebe.

Stories like Daisy’s highlight the realities of working on the frontline during the pandemic and the importance of supporting the wellbeing of King’s staff.
