NATHAN AND GEORGIA!

In July 2021, Nathan and his wife Georgia were out with friends watching the England vs Ukraine match. In a split second, Nathan sat on a wall just outside their front door, then lost his balance and tumbled backwards onto the concrete stairs leading to the basement flat below.

Nathan was initially rushed to Ashford Hospital, where they identified three separate bleeds on his brain. He was then transferred to King’s and had an operation to remove about 1/3 of his skull to relieve the pressure on his brain. Nathan was in a coma for about a week, where he was required to have one-to-one care to increase his chances of surviving. After that, he stayed in hospital for another two weeks.

In March 2022, the wonderful staff at King’s fitted a titanium plate to replace Nathan’s missing skull. The road to recovery was slightly rocky, and Nathan had to spend longer in hospital than planned.

Despite these complications, Nathan has now been officially discharged, and will be bravely taking on the 2023 London Landmarks Half Marathon with his wife, to show their gratitude for the care they received at King’s.

Nathan couldn’t be more grateful for the incredible staff at King’s. He said:

It was a terrible time, but I have been incredibly lucky. If it wasn’t for Ms Maratos and her team, I doubt I would be here. Everyone that works and King’s is a hero in my eyes.

Georgia said:

Nathan’s care was exemplary at all times. We’re running for King’s so they can continue to do the amazing work they do in saving lives and keeping families like ours together.
