Hosted by a different city every summer, The British Transplant Games see teams from all over the UK come together to compete in a variety of sports. Participants include transplant survivors, with children as young as 5 competing – all in aid of raising awareness around organ donation, and encouraging transplant recipients to lead healthy, active lifestyles.
This cause is very close to our heart. King’s runs the largest liver transplantation programme in Europe and carries out around 50 paediatric transplants per year.
Each year, around 20 King’s transplant children and their families attend the British Transplant Games, which enable children to feel part of a team, after the often isolating experience of undergoing a liver transplant. It's a wonderful opportunity to bring children and families together who have gone through shared experiences. This year's team is made up of an incredibly brave bunch of 2-17 year olds.
Congratulations to everyone involved, you've done Team King's very proud!
