Dulwich College delivers Christmas joy

A group of 90 students and teachers from Dulwich College has undertaken a gruelling 24-hour physical challenge, raising £8,831 to support patients spending this Christmas in our hospitals.

On Saturday 28 November 2020, the teachers and students formed teams to cycle, row, run, or walk in the challenge, with all funds raised donated to our King’s Elf Service.

“Our intentions for this project were to spread happiness and joy throughout our community this Christmas especially during a pandemic” says student, Louis Ng.

“It was our thought to begin a charitable campaign that raises awareness for the hospitalised during these turbulent times.”

The King’s Elf Service aims to provide a gift to all of the 1500 in-patients spending this Christmas in one of our five hospitals.

“On behalf of the Charity I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Dulwich College who has supported this event” says Kate McGranaghan, Head of Supporter Engagement for King’s College Hospital Charity.

“Together they've raised enough to buy over 1000 gifts for patients staying at our hospitals. For many of our patients, this will be the only gift they receive on Christmas Day."

Highlights from their challenge included two teams of four students running relays over a 12 hour period, amounting to an incredible 287km between them, and two students pushing themselves to the limits by running a marathon each, battling through the bitter cold.

The fundraising challenge was created by students Louis Ng, Sameer Khalil, Elliot Cox, and Zain Ismail and Leondaro Pereira Dias, who are members of Dulwich College’s Upper School Charity Committee.

Donations from kind supporters enable us to make real change at our hospitals. With winter closing in, we’ll need to be there for many more people as they become sick with COVID-19.

Congratulations to Dulwich College on their fantastic efforts, and for being there for the King's community this Christmas.
