Chloe takes on 5 Peaks Challenge for King's

Super-mum Chloe is lacing up her hiking boots to raise money for the the hospital that saved her little hero, George.

Born with craniosynostosis, one year old George endured eight hours of skull reconstruction surgery at King's College Hospital to ensure his brain had the right amount of room to grow.

The skull is made up of several plates of bone which, at birth, are not yet joined together. As we grow older, the seams between these plates gradually fuse together. However, when a baby is born with craniosynostosis, the sutures fuse too early, before the brain is fully formed.

"Surgery was successful, but seeing my darling boy so vulnerable and in pain was so much harder than I could ever have imagined", said Chloe.

Now that George is fully recoverd with his journey at King's safely behind him, Chloe decided to embark on a journey of her own.

On August 15th 2020, she clocked up some major Kilometres for King's as she tackled five of the Lake District’s most challenging peaks: Rossett Pike, Allen Crags, Scafell Pike, Ill Crag and Great End.

‘If it wasn’t for the amazing doctors and nurses on both the Thomas Cook Children’s Critical Care Centre and The Lion Ward, I don’t know how we’d have even managed to get through George’s hospital stay.’

"It only feels right now to pay something back to them, which is why I decided to embark on this challenge."
