Charity welcomes Iona Joy as Director of Grants and Insight

King’s College Hospital Charity has appointed Iona Joy in the newly created role of Director of Grants and Insight. The new role, commencing on 22 September 2019, will set out to maximise the impact from the Charity’s grant making process, ensuring the greatest effect in supporting life-changing care for patients at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Iona joins the Charity from NPC, bringing a wealth of experience in analysing the charitable sector and advising charities and funders on improving their effectiveness. An expert in her field, Iona has researched a myriad of topics and delivered training on charity strategy, social investment, and strategic analysis. She is also a regular commentator on issues facing the sector, and appeared on BBC Television News, Radio 4, and The Guardian.

Iona said: “I have had a great 16 years at NPC supporting the social sector to grow and develop approaches to impact, strategy and governance. I’ve learnt a vast deal from colleagues in NPC and our clients. Whilst sad to leave NPC, I am excited to be joining the Kings College Hospital Charity team and to have the opportunity to put my NPC experience into practice.

“As Director of Grants and Insight I will be at the sharp end of ensuring the Charity’s resources achieve impact - working with the people affected, clinicians, and communities to create solutions in health, and developing processes to ensure we learn from our grants and grantees.”

Gail Scott-Spicer, Chief Executive at King’s College Hospital Charity, said “we are delighted to have somebody of Iona’s calibre coming aboard at such a pivotal time for the Charity. Moving into our third year as an independent charity, we’ve made great advancements in our fundraising and philanthropic activities, and this is a critical time to ensure the grants we’re awarding are making a real and meaningful difference to our patients, to our staff, and to our hospitals. As a specialist in health and disability, Iona is the perfect fit, and we can’t wait to welcome her to the team.”
