King’s Stars Awards

Five years ago, King’s College Hospital Charity began funding the King’s Stars Awards to recognise and reward outstanding care, dedication and long service by NHS staff.

The long-service awards celebrate outstanding individuals who have dedicated their working lives to the NHS. Their stories remind us how important it is to commend the extraordinary accomplishments of King’s staff, and to formally thank them for their compassion and dedication to outstanding, consistent care.

It’s an honour to recognise and reward staff who go above and beyond every day to give their patients exceptional care. So, we were incredibly proud to support the annual awards in London in November 2023. With over 300 people in attendance, worthy winners were presented with a framed certificate, trophy and prize.

Some of our awards include:

  • The Brilliant People Award

This award is for an individual or team that has improved the lives of their colleagues, perhaps through delivering a particular programme of work or simply for demonstrating a commitment to developing others, inspiring leadership, looking after their team or colleagues, or striving to be their best

  • The Lifesaver of the Year Award

Decided by a public vote, this award is for an individual or team that has had a uniquely positive impact on someone’s life; for example, by performing a life-saving intervention, positively transforming a patient’s life, or helping to make a patient’s life easier once they leave hospital.

  • The Outstanding Care Award

This award celebrates an individual or team that consistently goes above and beyond, putting patients first, providing the best possible services, improving overall population health, and demonstrating the importance of being part of a listening and learning organisation.

The brand-new Wellbeing Hub. The walls are a calming sage green and the carpet is a calming grey. There are twin chairs in a rich purple in the far left hand corner. In the near left corner there is a round, white table with three sage green soft chairs. There are two lava lamps in the back, as well as some more purple chairs to the right. There are calming pictures framed on the wall.

The Wellbeing Hub: a sanctuary away from the wards

Thanks to supporters who gave so generously to our first emergency Hospital Heroes Appeal in 2020, we were able to set up a temporary Wellbeing Hub for exhausted staff in King’s College Hospital during the pandemic. With further funding, we have now been able to ensure that the Hub is a permanent fixture.
