Gary's high-flying tribute to King's!

In 2020, Gary had a life-saving neurological operation at King's. Today, he's fighting fit and determined to give back to the people who saved his life, by freefalling out of the sky.

In 2020, Nicola was sitting in the living room when she suddenly saw her husband Gary collapse in the garden in front of her. She immediately called their GP, who advised that Gary and Nicola drive straight to their local hospital, the Princess Royal University Hospital in Bromley.

Waiting for Gary on his arrival was a brilliant member of staff, who helped him into a wheelchair and sent him straight off for scans. After a short while and a few tests later, Gary was told he would need an emergency operation to save his life, and just like that, he was blue-lighted to King's.

From the moment Gary arrived at King's, the care he received was second to none. From the team of world-leading surgeons reassuringly explaining every step of the process, to the kind nurse who comforted him before his operation, the amazing staff at King's were there for him in his greatest time of need.

I can't thank them enough - I owe them my life. Not all heroes wear capes...some wear scrubs!

After a 7-hour operation, Gary woke up. The surgery had been successful. Following a short stay in hospital, he was back at home and on the road to recovery.

Fast-forward to 2024 and Gary is still indebted to the incredible team at the PRUH and King's for the exceptional care they showed him four years ago.

To give back, Gary decided to take his fundraising to spectacular heights by freefalling out of the sky! He took on a tandem skydive, raising over £2,000 for King's.

Today was a very special day as Gary returned to King's to celebrate, with his former surgeon Bassel Zebian joining in on the festivities!
