Do your own fundraising: Henry's story

Charlie and his friend Alex are taking part in an epic 24 hour bike ride from Paris to London to raise money for King's.

Charlie's son Henry was born via C-section at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

However, at just two days old, Henry was blue-lighted in a special children's ambulance straight to A&E, where the amazing team at King's saved his life.

Due to the severity of his condition, Henry was transferred to the Thomas Cook Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), for two weeks, where he would come off the ventilator, then go back on it, while moving in between the High Dependency Unit and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

While Henry still undergoes regular check-ups for potential long-term health concerns, every moment with him at home is cherished.

I don't know how to put it into words. We owe them Henry's life, basically. We're just really grateful for being able to have Henry here and all the work that they do at King’s.

To give back for the life-saving work King’s gave to Henry, Charlie and his friend Alex are taking on the Paris to London cycle in just 24 hours.

The duo are setting off from the Eiffel Tower on 13th June and hopefully arriving at King's on 14th June.

Charlie and Alex are trying to get as much training in as possible, as they'll be cycling unsupported with no additional help.

I wanted to do a challenge that everyone would understand that would be really difficult. Henry's gone through a really difficult journey, and I thought I need to do something that's difficult as well.
