‘Volunteering has built up my confidence’
Louise has been a patient at both King’s and Guy’s and St Thomas’ and joined our team in January 2014. She’s been helping us with a number of tasks in our office, which has been a great way for her to gain experience while she looks for work.
Louise particularly values being a part of our team because the roles are flexible, allowing her to fit volunteering in around other parts of her life.
We really appreciate Louise being part of our team as a fundraising volunteer.
In her own words
‘I was a patient at King’s and I’m at Guy’s and St Thomas’ now. They’re good hospitals and this is a nice way to give back. Volunteering makes me feel like I’ve got a purpose.
‘I haven’t worked for a long time and I was nervous about getting back on the computer again, but volunteering has built up my confidence. No one’s been pressuring or demanding, everyone’s been friendly and helpful, and it’s got my confidence up.
‘Remember that you’re not committed to a set date or time; you can help as and when you want to, so it’s easy to get involved.”
