‘Volunteering is really interesting because there’s not just one type of thing you can do’

Jesse has lived near King’s College Hospital for most of her life. She chose to become a hospital fundraising volunteer because members of her family had received treatment there, and she wanted to give something back. So, Jesse signed up as a fundraising volunteer in November 2013, and, since then, has volunteered at a number of fundraising events – even bringing her friends along, too.

We really appreciate Jesse being part of our team as a fundraising volunteer.

In her own words

Jesse says: ‘Although I know a lot about King’s, when I got involved I found out that I could also help fundraise for Guy’s and St Thomas’, Evelina London and South London and Maudsley. I thought it was really good to have the chance to support them all, because they all need help.

Volunteering is really interesting because there’s not just one type of thing you can do. You can help in the office, and there are lots of events throughout the year and other ways to help as well. It’s all fun, and all gives to the end result of helping others.

Before I started helping with fundraising, I was quite shy, but I’ve been able to meet different people and it’s developed my confidence. I find it really rewarding, especially being able to visit the hospitals at the ‘Volunteer Thank You’ events when we see all the things we’ve fundraised for. It’s also great to meet new people and other volunteers.

‘To anyone thinking of volunteering, I’d say go for it! Participate as much as you can, and remember that everything you do is contributing to something big.’
